These are the areas of consideration for this group chaired by Hein Rune Skjoldal of the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
Taking an approach based on the concept of an ecosystem, the current work will identify and discuss the following issues :
Maritime Research required to develop and adapt traditional sea-based activities in line with safety regulations and sustainability, Maritime transport in Europe
Maritime Research opportunities in emerging sectors that may encourage sustainable regional development,in maritime innovation in Europe
Expected place of sea-related research in the European Union?s 7th Framework Research and Development Programme (FP7), the funding tool underpinning the EU's maritime research policy,
Opportunities for action by european coastal Regions as regards sea-related research within the FP7, given regional policy funding.
